Readers extol City facilities as Best of Chandler

Best of Chandler logoReaders of the East Valley Tribune have validated what residents of Chandler have come to expect and appreciate -- that Chandler has some of the best cultural and recreational venues in the Valley.
A number of City facilities were voted “Best of Chandler” by Tribune readers polled over a four-week period during the newspaper’s annual survey of the best Chandler has to offer.
Tumbleweed Recreation Center was voted the Best Place to Exercise, offerings 52 group exercise classes per week and scores of youth programs and child care.
The Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center was chosen Best Public Pool due to its many fun features, including a competition and lap pool, the big blue bucket, two diving boards, two water slides, a lazy river, toddler slides, a water vortex and family play pool.
The Chandler Center for the Arts won in the Best Live Performance Venue category and features high-quality artists and performers at a great value.
Also recognized was a restaurant located at Chandler’s Municipal Airport, The Hangar Cafe. Voted Best Breakfast Spot, this unique eating establishment opened 18 years ago and was recognized for its great food and service.
In addition, Tribune readers chose The Chandler Ostrich Festival as the community’s Best Annual Event. This Chamber-sponsored extravaganza is held at Tumbleweed Park and last year attracted nearly 90,000 people. It pays homage to the community’s history of Ostrich ranching when the big birds were raised for their plumes that adorned fashionable hats of the 1920s and '30s. Today, the birds are still the center of attraction with chariot-like ostrich races that bring crowds to their feet.
