Nov. 4, 2009 Arizona Ave. project to be discussed with public CHANDLER, Ariz. – An update on the planned improvements to Arizona Avenue between Chandler Boulevard and Frye Road will be presented to the public at a 6 p.m. meeting to be held Thursday, November 12, in the City Council Chambers, 2nd Floor of Chandler’s Downtown Library, 22 South Delaware Street. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in early 2010 and the meeting will provide downtown businesses, property owners and interested persons with another opportunity to discuss the project and future construction with City staff and design consultants. The project design team is further defining the various project elements including street furnishings, lighting, street and sidewalk materials and design, and a public art component. Initial design details were presented at a public meeting held September 8. In June, the Chandler City Council approved a four-lane (two lanes in each direction) alignment for Arizona Avenue from Frye Road to Chandler Boulevard that will include wider sidewalks, bicycle lanes and additional on-street parking. The improvements to Arizona Avenue are the initial steps in a larger vision endorsed by the Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership to develop a pedestrian friendly feel to the City’s core and a new entryway, or “front door”, into downtown from the Loop 202 / San Tan Freeway.
