Fractured Fairy Tale contest, author visit on April 27 at Hamilton Library
The Chandler Library is holding a creative writing contest for youth ages 10-18 who want to share their versions of a fractured fairy tale based on the classic, Cinderella. The authors of the three best entries will win a gift box from Fairy Tale Brownies and get to read their story aloud at a special event to be held at 6 p.m. on April 27, at the Hamilton Library, 3700 S. Arizona Ave.
The tales must be 500 words or less and submitted to the Hamilton Library no later than 8 p.m. on April 20. Entry forms are available at all Chandler libraries and online at www.chandlerlibrary.org.
The Fractured Fairy Tale contest winners will be announced at the beginning of the April 27 event, which features a reading by author Janette Rallison, a resident of Chandler who has sold more than one million books. Rallison will read from her newest book, My Unfair Godmother, and answer questions from the audience.
Fractured fairy tales are based on traditional fairy tales, but have been modified with new plot twists and updated characters in an effort to create different meanings and unexpected endings.
