August 18, 2011 Chandler City Council Meeting Recap

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Chandler City Council met at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 18, 2011, and took the following action:
  • Approved a use permit for Cornerstone Christian Fellowship to continue using an temporary unpaved parking lot near Alma School and Willis roads.
  • Approved a contract with KDA Creative for public relations and communications during the intersection improvements at Alma School and Ray roads.
  • Appointed Janet Langley to the Chandler Cultural Foundation Management Board and Steve Sheldon to the Domestic Violence Commission.
  • On the Action agenda, continued to the second meeting in February 2012 the use permit for Mid Mountain Excavation to operate an excavation business near Germann and McQueen roads.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.

Prior to adjourning the Mayor announced that the Arizona Section of the American Public Works Association named the South Arizona Avenue Corridor Improvement Project as a “Project of the Year.”   The project was completed last November, creating a pedestrian-friendly feel to the City’s core.  Since completion of the improvements, 12 new businesses have made downtown Chandler their home, bringing 400 new jobs to the community.

Mayor Tibshraeny then announced that the next Neighborhood HOA Academy begins Thursday, September 8 and the next Traditional Neighborhood Academy begins Wednesday, September 7.  Both are free and promote successful and sustainable neighborhoods by providing information, education, networking and leadership development opportunities

Finally, the Mayor welcomed global aerospace firm, Triumph Group to Chandler as it is moving its Phoenix operations here early next year. The company will  take close to 80,000 square feet in west Chandler, bringing 110 jobs with potential to grow to 200.
