April 26, 2012, Chandler City Council Meeting Recap

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Chandler City Council met at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2012, and took the following action:
  • Approved an agreement with SolarCity to place solar panels which will also act as shade structures in the Tumbleweed Recreation Center parking lot. 
  • Approved the final adoption of the lease agreement with the University of Arizona to locate in the City’s Downtown Community Center.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mayor Jay Tibshraeny announced that the American Institute of Architects named Chandler City Hall was named one of the Top Ten Green Projects of the Year, and invited the public to the Pioneer Luncheon 11:45 a.m. Saturday at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Resort Pavilion.  He also invited the public to the free Fire Department open house on Saturday May 12 and the Cinco de Mayo festivities on Saturday, May 5 in the Downtown Library Courtyard. T

The Mayor concluded his remarks with an invitation to the Chandler Police Department memorial service on Monday, May 7th at 9 a.m., to honor the department’s fallen officers.

Councilmember Rick Heumann congratulated the Chamber on celebrating its 100th anniversary, as well as congratulating the Kyrene and Chandler Unified School districts for having three Chandler schools named A+.

Councilmember Trinity Donovan thanked all who attended the Chandler Christian Center groundbreaking, and reminded everyone that the ICAN ribbon cutting will be May 10.

Councilmember Kevin Hartke thanked those who participated in Live Love Day and Let’s Pull together for their efforts in improving Chandler neighborhoods.

At Monday’s Council Study Session, Mayor Tibshraeny recognized several organizations and presented proclamations for the following:
  • Service Recognition for Curt Holiday and Richard Ponce de Leon with the Fire Department
  • Service Recognition for Cathy Coppes with the Police Department
  • Recognized Kids for Conservation High School Video award winners
  • May 14 through 20th as National Police Week and May 15, 2012 as Police Officer Memorial Day
  • Recognized Airport Dayz poster contest winners
  • Read a Proclamation regarding the Chandler Chamber of Commerce Centennial
  • Accepted the Centennial Scholarship Fund Check from Whole Foods
