Learn easy steps of backyard composting
Residents interested in learning about backyard composting are invited to register for a free workshop to be held from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, June 9 at the Chandler City Hall-East Lobby Entrance, 175 S. Arizona Avenue. The workshop is open to Chandler residents receiving City provided trash and recycling services and participants must pre-register by calling (480) 782-3510.
Composting is a natural process that recycles plant and other organic material into a product that can replace fertilizers and reduce the amount of waste material going to a landfill.
Natural microbial processes convert plant materials such as grass clippings, leaves, and kitchen scraps into a beneficial organic soil material that can improve soil texture, increase the ability of soil to absorb water and air, suppress weed growth, decrease erosion, and reduce the need for commercial soil additives.
The workshop will include hands-on interactive demonstrations of the tools and techniques used in composting, plus a discussion of various composting methods and the variety of uses for the finished product.
