Neighborhood newsletter, weed pulling campaign recognized

Chandler’s “News for Neighbors” newsletter has received a second place Silver Medal Award in a national neighborhood newsletter competition sponsored by Neighborhoods USA (NUSA), a non-profit organization committed to building and strengthening neighborhood organizations.

The award was presented to Councilmember Kevin Hartke and Neighborhood Programs Coordinator Judy Ramos at NUSA’s annual conference held last month in Indianapolis and will be on the City Council’s June 11 agenda for formal recognition.

In addition, Chandler’s Let’s Pull Together community weed-pulling project was a finalist for NUSA’s Best Neighborhood Program Award which recognizes outstanding programs to improve neighborhoods. Initiated in 2010, the Let’s Pull Together campaign asks residents for assistance in locating properties with overgrown weeds and acquiring authorization to perform yard maintenance. Groups of volunteers are then organized to remove the weeds and are provided trash bags by the City.

The "News for Neighbors" newsletter is produced quarterly and contains informative articles regarding neighborhood issues and events and is available at Chandler public libraries and online at
