Chandler now accepting applications for HOA Academy

Residents who are involved with their community or homeowners association are encouraged to apply for the City of Chandler’s Spring HOA Academy.  This year’s Spring academy will be held during lunchtime hours from noon to 1:30 p.m. each Wednesday from March 23 to April 13. Classes will be held at the Environmental Education Center, 4050 E. Chandler Heights Road.  Lunch will be provided.  

To register for the free academy, contact the Neighborhood Programs office at 480-782-4354. Applications may be downloaded at chandleraz.gov/neighborhoods and are due Friday, March 11.

Wednesday, March 23: Board Member Roles and Responsibilities & Code of Conduct - Participants will learn what board members should do to ensure that association business is conducted efficiently and professionally. The class also will focus on the duties of the board of directors, including roles and responsibilities, fiduciary duties, how to establish a code of conduct as well as how to recruit, mentor and train new board members. 

Wednesday, March 30: Hot Topics - Pros & Cons: You Decide - Participants will have an opportunity to give their opinion on how HOAs should be run – and listen to the other side. Topics discussed will include licensing of managers/management companies, Airbnb, VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner), mandatory education and compensation of board members. Participants also will have the opportunity to share what types of HOA/condo state bills they would like the Legislature to make into law.

Wednesday, April 6: Self-Managed vs. Professionally Managed Associations 101 - This class will provide a discussion on what it means to be a self-managed association versus professionally managed. Participants will learn what the responsibilities are of management companies, how the board and the management company can work together effectively, what a board or an association can do if a management company is not living up to the terms of its contract.

Wednesday, April 13: HOA Corporate Formalities - Did you know your HOA is a nonprofit corporation with certain corporate formalities and laws that need to be abided by outside of your CC&Rs? This class will provide a discussion on the "corporate" side of HOAs with a focus on corporate governance issues, regulations requirements, meetings and voting.
