Anticipated vacancy on Chandler City Council

It is anticipated that there will be an upcoming vacancy on the Chandler City Council beginning May 30, 2018. The Council has established the process to fill a City Council vacated seat due to resignation. Per the City Charter, the Council has 30 days from the resignation to appoint a replacement. The appointee will serve on the Council through the current term, which expires in January 2021.

“I encourage those interested in public service as a City Council member to submit an application,” said Mayor Jay Tibshraeny. “This is a great opportunity for our residents and I know there is no shortage of qualified leaders who are ready to make a difference in their community. My goal is to give residents who may wish to be involved in this process ample time to apply."

"It has truly been an honor to serve on the Chandler City Council these last six years, including as Vice Mayor. In accordance with state law, however, I must resign in order to pursue serving the people of Chandler in the State House of Representatives, Legislative District 17,” said Vice Mayor Nora Ellen. I am announcing my resignation from the Council, effective at noon on May 30, 2018."

When the vacancy occurs, the Council will accept applications from all qualified applicants. Interested candidates must be 18 years of age, a registered voter and a Chandler resident for two years prior to the appointment. At the time the vacancy occurs, information on the application process will be posted on the City’s website at chandleraz.gov.

Due to City Charter requirements, the period to submit an application will close approximately 10 days after a resignation is effective.

For information, or questions on the process, contact Chandler’s City Clerk Dana DeLong at 480-782-2182, or dana.delong@chandleraz.gov.
