It’s a new year, and a new look for your CityScope. The goal is still the same; to provide you with valuable news about the City of Chandler. The new look incorporates the branding and styles similar to the City’s digital marketing and website design. We think you’ll enjoy the consistent look across all of the City platforms. We hope you’ll also enjoy some of the visual elements — photographs and colors that have been incorporated to help us share the story of Chandler. In addition to the print edition updates, a new digital CityScope has also launched this month, with links to even more content.
Budget Outlook for Fiscal Year 2020-21
Chandler continues to be one of the leading communities in the state for new businesses and job creation. Local sales tax revenues remain strong, and the City benefits from “slow but steady” improvement in the state and national economies. City officials take these factors into consideration as work begins on the 2020-21 Fiscal Year budget.
Each year, we focus on continuing fiscal strength by conservative forecasting and managing expenditure growth, which would position the City well in the event of an economic downturn. We desire to continue the tradition of transparency, maintaining strong financial policies, adding efficiencies, providing essential public services and maintaining infrastructure to make it attractive for businesses and their employees. These efforts are paying off as many new companies have moved to, or expanded in Chandler over the last year. Many are future-focused, and provide quality jobs in innovative sectors. This year’s budget theme, The Future is in Sight, not only plays off the year being 2020, but alludes to the City’s desire to be a leader in innovation to ensure that we meet the ever-changing needs the future requires in our community.
An important part of the budget process is an ongoing review of the many programs and services the City provides, as well as reviewing the budget feedback received during the recent budget survey. This process is among the reasons the City’s budget so closely matches the community’s highest priorities each fiscal year.

Chandler celebrates Science Spectacular
On Saturday, Feb. 8, Chandler celebrates the exploration of invention. The Chandler Science Spectacular showcases the businesses, artists, students and innovators from our Community of Innovation from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in
Downtown Chandler.
This free event offers unique opportunities for attendees to explore the discoveries of science engineered in their own backyard. Chandler uses ‘sneaky science’ by entertaining the whole family while explaining how science is important to daily life.
There will be interactive demonstrations by Chandler’s technology companies such as Northrop Grumman and Intel, along with the next generation of science from ASU, UArizona, First Things First and more.

City offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, for the Presidents’ Day holiday. Trash and recycling collection will not be affected. |
The Recycling-Solid Waste Collection Center (RSWCC) is a residential drop-off facility for recycling and trash disposal. It is located at 955 E. Queen Creek Rd., and is open Thursday through Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed Tuesday, Wednesday and City-observed holidays). These are some of the most frequently asked questions about the RSWCC:
- What do I need to bring with me to use the RSWCC?
A Photo ID and a current copy of your City of Chandler Utility Bill (City Code requires a current bill within the last 60 days). - What if I don’t receive a City utility bill in the mail?
I have autopay online. Residents with autopay should print a copy of their utility bill from the Utility Billing web page or have the bill print /barcode open and available on a mobile electronic device prior to driving on the scale for check-in. - Who can use the RSWCC?
Chandler residents with proper identification whose names are listed on the solid waste account are permitted use of the facility. Only waste generated at the address on the City utility bill is accepted for disposal. - Can I bring or authorize a third party to use the RSWCC for me?
Use of the facility by a third party performing work at a resident’s property is prohibited. The facility is restricted to resident self-haul and unload.
