CANCELED - July 4th Fireworks Spectacular
Saturday, July 4th at Tumbleweed Park
UPDATE: This event has now been canceled.
Everyone looks forward to the annual event to celebrate freedom, fireworks and fun at Chandler’s Independence Day celebration. We all want to hear that boom and crackle, and see the sparkle as we enjoy a star-spangled fireworks display, illuminating the sky in celebration of America’s birthday.
The celebration will continue this year, but the event will look different than years past. The priority for this year’s event is to protect our community’s health and ensure an environment to celebrate safely.
Plans are still underway, and the annual July 4th Fireworks Spectacular is currently being planned. Information will be available by calling the Special Events Hotline at 480-782-2735.
Holiday safety reminders
Please celebrate safely:
- Try to keep pets indoors, or otherwise secured. The unexpected bang of a firework can startle pets and result in uncharacteristic reactions.
- Fires, potentially serious burns, as well as hand and eye injuries, can result from the use of fireworks, especially when young children are involved.
- The sale of permissible consumer fireworks is allowed from May 20 through July 6.
- The use of permissible consumer fireworks is allowed on private property, with the permission of the property owner, from June 24 through July 6.
- Chandler prohibits the use of permissible consumer fireworks in any public park.

Financial rewards await homeowners who invest in landscape water conservation measures
The City of Chandler offers financial rewards to eligible homeowners who make a cost-saving investment in their property by altering their landscaping or irrigation system in an effort to reduce water consumption. The City’s Water Conservation Division offers rebates to those who convert all or portions of their turf areas to low-water use landscape, plant low-water-use xeriscape vegetation and install smart irrigation controllers. The rebates are credited to the homeowner’s utility bill and meant to incentivize other residents to make a similar commitment to conserve precious potable water resources. Applying for a rebate is now easier with an online application.
Installing a smart irrigation controller can earn a homeowner up to $250, while xeriscape installation and turf conversion of at least 1,000 square feet can result in a maximum of $3,000 per household, or $200 per 1,000 square feet of grass removed.
The latest generation of smart irrigation controllers use current weather data and information about site conditions such as soil moisture, rain, wind, slope, soil and plant type to apply the right amount of water to the landscape. The use of smart irrigation controllers produces significant water savings; tens of thousands of gallons in some cases.
Xeriscape is a style of landscape design requiring little or no irrigation or other maintenance, used in arid regions like Arizona’s Sonoran Desert. Hundreds of xeriscape plant types of all sizes and shapes are available in area plant nurseries. Many produce beautiful flowers in a variety of colors, attract birds and wildlife and can enhance any yard. Homeowners who convert their grass areas to low-water-use landscaping can see a reduction in their water use by 25 percent or more.
Information about water-saving measures, water audits, the rebate program requirements and the online application is available by email or by calling 480-782-3580. Applications are generally processed within 10 business days.
- On July 1, 2020, you will be able to view the City’s Annual Water Quality Consumer Confidence Report for 2019. It contains valuable information about the source and quality of your drinking water.
- City offices will be closed Friday, July 3, 2020, for the Independence Day holiday. Trash and recycling collection will not be affected. The Recycling-Solid Waste Collection Center will be closed on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. Operations will resume on Sunday, July 5 at 8 a.m.
- City facilities and services have gradually begun reopening. For some City services, new processes have been implemented including advanced scheduling of appointments.
