Chandler Police Department offers residents a Senior Lockbox Program for emergency access

Senior Lock Box Program

Have you ever wondered what would happen if an emergency arises and you call 9-1-1 but aren’t able to open the door when help arrives? This is especially true with senior citizens who suffer a fall, stroke or heart attack. In these instances, every second counts.

The Chandler Police Department offers a Senior Lockbox program to its residents. The program provides lockboxes for emergency personnel to gain access to the senior’s home after being summoned there for emergency purposes. Your information and the code to the lockbox is provided only to police officers and firefighters in the event there is an emergency call to your home.

While the lockbox provides an alternative to forced entry, in the event of a time sensitive situation (person not breathing, fire, etc.), emergency personnel may not have the time to use the lockbox system and will gain entry with the fastest means possible. Every effort will be given to utilize the lockbox when time permits.

If you have questions please contact the Chandler Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit at 480-782-4960.

Shop local, Shop Chandler. Every purchase counts

Why is it important to #ChooseChandler for all our purchasing needs? Sales taxes from the money you spend in Chandler help support several City services, such as Police and Fire, road improvements and neighborhood updates. These taxes also support the quality of life found in Chandler enhancing parks, sports fields, trails, pools and recreation programs.

On top of supporting City services, patronizing Chandler-based businesses has a significant impact on the local economy and shopping local has an even greater impact.

Whether it’s a large purchase, or a quick stop in the grocery store, where you choose to shop makes a difference. For every $100 spent at a locally owned business, an average of $43 remains in our economy.

When you shop Chandler you not only support Chandler-based businesses, but also support the local community and youth
organizations that serve our community. These youth organizations, food banks, social service agencies and more; rely on support and donations from local business owners and residents. For ideas on where to shop, visit or dine in Chandler, visit or follow @VisitChandler on Facebook and Instagram.

Get your yard ready for spring

Backyard Composting

Warmer weather is here, and it’s time to get Chandler yards ready for spring. There are three options for residents to dispose of green waste.

One option is to place yard waste in the black trash container for normal weekly collection. Maricopa County and Chandler City code require that all yard waste items, including leaves and grass, must be bagged and tied before placing it in the trash can.

Another option is curbside bulk collection. There are specific size and bundling requirements and specific locations for where items are allowed to be placed. Make a list of what you need picked up, then call Solid Waste Services at 480-782-3510 to schedule your pick-up before setting items out for collection.

The third option for Chandler residents is to drop off yard waste at the Recycling-Solid Waste Collection Center (RSWCC), located at 955 E. Queen Creek Road.  The facility is open Thursday through Monday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and City-observed holidays. A picture ID is required, as well as a hard copy of a current City of Chandler utility bill showing City-provided solid waste services (within 60 days). Residents must haul and unload their waste, and only trash from the Chandler residence listed on the bill may be brought to this facility.

Backyard composters are available at the RSWCC and backyard composting workshops are scheduled throughout the year. To Register for a backyard composter or call 480-782-3800.
