In February 2019, Chandler Center for the Arts was awarded a $50,000 grant from the Ruth Tankersley Charitable Trust to support its Connecting Kids programs.

“Experiences with the arts are critical to youth development related to critical thinking, better synthesis of math and science, and innovative problem-solving,” says Michelle Mac Lennan, general manager at the Chandler Center for the Arts. “Studies show that a student involved in the arts is four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement.”

Connecting Kids serves more than 5,400 young people, ages 6 to 17, every year with performing and visual arts experiences. The Chandler Center for the Arts is currently undergoing an educational assessment of the Connecting Kids programs it offers. The funds provided by this grant will help support programming expansion, continuing to reduce barriers for participation and a deeper investment to meet community needs.

The grant was awarded to the Chandler Center for the Arts through an application submitted by the Chandler Cultural Foundation, a nonprofit 501c3 organization contracted by the City of chandler to program and raise funds for the Chandler Center for the Arts. The Ruth Tankersley Charitable Trust awards its funds to education programs, as well as human services, animal welfare and children’s hospitals.
