City Council Chambers

On Thursday, May 28, the City Council will take action on the City’s Tentative 2020-21 Budget and the 2021-30 Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which is effective July 1. During the meeting, residents will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed City budget.

The Chandler City Council meeting on Thursday, May 28, will be open to in-person audience with a maximum of 50 people. Residents are asked to attend for their agenda item only and then leave the meeting. An overflow area will be available in the Council Chambers lobby and courtyard with audio to hear the meeting discussion. Residents also will be able to watch the live City Council meeting on Cox Cable 11, CenturyLink Channel 8502 or streamed through the City’s website at chandleraz.gov/video or YouTube.com/cityofchandler.

At the June 11 Council Meeting, the City Council will conduct a public hearing on the 2020-21 budget, 2021-30 CIP and Property Tax Levy, followed by the action on the 2020-21 Budget and 2021-30 CIP. Council’s vote on adoption of the Property Tax Levy will be on June 25.

All three Council Meetings start at 6 p.m., and will be held in the City Council Chambers, 88 E. Chicago St.

Many of the services provided to Chandler residents are financed through the General Fund. This fund supports many of the services residents rely upon most, including police and fire services, libraries, maintenance of city streets, parks and other infrastructure. General Fund revenues largely come from local City sales tax and state-shared revenues.

Other services are financed through separate self-supporting Utility Funds, which include Water, Wastewater, Airport and Solid Waste services, plus other Special Revenue and Capital Project funds.

The proposed budget is available for review at chandleraz.gov/budget, and in hard copy at the Downtown Chandler Library, 22 S. Delaware St., and the City Clerk’s Office, 175 S. Arizona Ave.

As part of the budget development process, the City’s Budget Office conducted an online survey of residents in October and November 2019, and presented the results to the Mayor and the members of the City Council for their consideration.

In addition, Budget Live – The Future’s In Sight, a live budget discussion with Mayor, Council and City staff, was held in February to allow for public input. Furthermore, a Council Budget Kickoff, as well as two public budget workshops with the Mayor and Councilmembers took place from January through March to discuss the upcoming budget. Those presentations, as well as the survey results and video of the Budget Live presentation, are online for viewing at chandleraz.gov/budget.
