Each year, the City’s Diversity Office hosts the popular festival that brings thousands of residents to Downtown Chandler. This year, the celebration of diversity continues virtually. Mark your calendar for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, as the City of Chandler hosts the 26th Annual Multicultural Festival on Facebook.
The hour-long event, hosted by Dr. William Crawford with Chandler-Gilbert Community College and TV Host Lashay Marks, will feature four performing artists, including Arizona Rhythm Connection; Ballet Folklorico Quetzalli-AZ; K-pop group ERA; and Stilicho. Performer bios and information are available at Multicultural Festival.
“The Annual Multicultural Festival has always been a community favorite with participation from multiple organizations and volunteers to showcase their culture,” said Diversity Supervisor Niki Tapia. “We’re thrilled to be able to still work with our partners to make a virtual experience for our residents to learn about different cultures in our community.”
In addition to the entertainment, there will be a henna demonstration from the Henna Shoppe at Chandler Fashion Center and three cooking segments on how to make several cultural culinary delights, including:
- Challah bread with Chef Melinda from the East Valley Jewish Community Center;
- Pho with community advocate Chantal VanKlompenberg; and
- Indian cake with Priya Kalra with the Arizona South Asian Chamber.
