Today the City of Chandler, in partnership with the nonprofit For Our City Chandler, launched ChangeUp, a text-to-donate and awareness campaign that educates residents on the benefits of donating directly to local charities, instead of people who panhandle.

Making a donation is easy. Residents may text “ChangeUp” to 44-321 to make a one-time or monthly donation of $1, $5, $10, $25, or any amount. Donations also will be accepted online at ChangeUp. All proceeds collected through the ChangeUp initiative will go directly to programs and services provided by nonprofits to help end homelessness.

“Chandler residents are very generous and we want to encourage continued giving to those in need,” said Riann Balch, community resources manager, Chandler’s Neighborhood Resources Department. “However, we want to ensure their donations are going towards a long-term solution to make real change in the lives of our people who are experiencing homelessness in our community.”

As part of its outreach efforts, the City will place new signage in high-traffic panhandling areas within Chandler city limits. These signs will serve as a friendly reminder to the community about how they can donate to make a lasting impact on homelessness. In addition, marketing materials were distributed to For Our City Chandler members during today’s kick-off event to share with their organizations.
