CHANDLER, Ariz. – Chandler Senior Center is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Center’s new outdoor garden space. The community is invited to join the Senior Center, Thursday, Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, garden planting activities, light refreshments, and giveaways. The new courtyard garden contains three garden beds, one for herbs, roses, and vegetables, and three portable garden beds.

Senior Center patrons will soon be able to find a peaceful retreat for talking and laughing and hanging out within the garden. As the seasons change, expect to see volunteer opportunities to assist with the year-round maintenance and sustainability of the garden. The Center also plans to create a senior gardening program integrating healthy eating, active living, and garden education.

“Outdoor experiences provide a place for the community to enjoy nature, seek out exercise, breathe in fresh air, and increase physical activity,” explained Tony Baumann, Recreation Coordinator II, and event organizer. “We’re thrilled to share this new garden space with our seniors and families in the community. It’s the perfect environment to bring people together.”

This garden renovation project has been made possible through the support of City Council Member Terry Roe and the Environmental Education Center.
