City of Chandler proposes new utility rates to go into effect

Sept. 1, 2023
Chandler City Hall

CHANDLER, Ariz. New utility rate options were presented to the Chandler City Council during a work session on July 20, 2023, and direction was received to move forward with the recommended changes.

Based on the results of Chandler’s Cost of Service study and updated financial rate models, the city recommends implementing rate changes to fund ongoing rising operating and capital costs. These costs include supplies such as chemicals and electricity that are essential to the processes of providing safe drinking water and treating wastewater, as well as increases in contract costs for solid waste and recycling collection.

Capital project construction materials and related debt service costs have also increased related to water and wastewater facility improvement projects focused on aging infrastructure such as main replacements, well construction and rehabilitation, and sewer assessments and rehabilitation.

A public meeting will be held in the Council Conference Room, 88 E. Chicago Street, on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at 5 p.m. A virtual meeting link will also be provided online prior to the meeting for residents who are unable to attend in person.

Residents can learn more about the proposed changes, get access to the virtual public meeting link, find information about the potential impact, see how the most recent Cost of Service study affects the rate for different customer classifications, and provide comments through a feedback form.

Should these recommended changes be approved, utility customers would see changes to their utility bills beginning in January 2024.
