City Council to Interview City Manager Finalists

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Four candidates will interview for Chandler’s city manager position, following a national recruitment that resulted in 34 applications. A series of interviews and forums with the following candidates will be conducted on July 14 and 15.

Milton Dohoney, Jr., served seven years as assistant city manager and chief operating officer for the City of Phoenix (Ariz.). Prior to that, he served as city manager for the City of Cincinnati (Ohio) for eight years and as chief administrative officer for three and a half years at the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government (Ky.). He also had a 16-year career with the City of Louisville (Ky.), serving four years as deputy mayor/chief administrator officer.

Sara Hensley joined the City of Denton (Texas) in May 2019 as assistant city manager, was promoted to deputy city manager in July 2020 and then appointed interim city manager in February 2021. Prior to that, she worked for the City of Austin (Texas) for more than 10 years, serving as interim assistant city manager for two years and parks and recreation director for nearly nine years. Beyond that, she has served 14 years in department leadership roles for the City of Phoenix (Ariz.), City of San Jose (Calif.) and City of Virginia Beach (Va.), primarily overseeing parks and recreation.

Tom Hutka served 11 years as public works director for Broward County (Fla.) and three years as director of municipal program management for HNTB Corporation in Indianapolis (Ind.). Prior to that, he served five years as city manager for the City of Port Huron (Mich.), four years as deputy county manager for Osceola (Fla.), two years as associate county administrator for Hennepin County (Minn.) and two years as commissioner of engineering and construction for the City of Cleveland (Ohio).

Josh Wright was appointed Chandler’s acting city manager in March 2021 to oversee the day-to-day operations of the City. He joined Chandler in 2017 as assistant city manager to provide administrative oversight of City departments and divisions. Prior to that, he served as town manager of Wickenburg (Ariz.) for five years and worked five years at the Town of Marana (Ariz.) as an assistant to the town manager and director of strategic initiatives.

The public is invited to listen to candidate presentations on Wednesday, July 14, from 1:30 – 3 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 88 E. Chicago St., and attend a reception with the candidates from 5:15 – 6 p.m. in the Vision Gallery, 10 E. Chicago St.

The City Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the City of Chandler and implements policies adopted by the City Council. It is one of four positions appointed by the City Council, the others being the City Attorney, City Clerk and Presiding City Magistrate.
