Get ready for the Chandler Science Spectacular
The City of Chandler invites the community to its seventh annual Chandler Science Spectacular, sponsored by Intel and Orbital ATK, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17. The one-day, hands-on event will be in Downtown Chandler, 178 E. Commonwealth Ave., between Buffalo and Boston streets along Commonwealth Avenue.
This event will entertain the entire family and explain how fun, creative and important science can be to daily life. Get ready to explore the basics of science as more than 50 companies and educational organizations host interactive, hands-on learning activities.
New this year is a science competition for Chandler K-12 students. Six winning teams will be awarded a $500 prize that will be presented to their school's science club or program for the most educational, most creative and most passionate projects. Staff from Intel and Orbital ATK, along with Vice Mayor Nora Ellen, will judge the projects on display at the event. The winners will be announced and recognized at the next available City Council meeting.
Event sponsor Orbital ATK will launch a model rocket every hour and their scientists and engineers will have a variety of interactive and hands-on activities for families to participate. The company will have a passport for kids to earn stamps as they complete each activity. Once the passport is filled out, kids may exchange it for a prize.
Intel and its volunteers will display Makey Makey/Sparkfun kits and feature activities focused on the fundamental basics of computer science. Waymo also will participate and provide a video display featuring their technology, a talkback booth for attendees to share what they would do in a self-driving car, a photo booth and a static demo of their self-driving Pacifica. Plus, much more from other organizations!
The annual Chandler Science Spectacular is part of the Arizona SciTech Festival, a statewide movement to promote and celebrate science in our daily lives and to earn recognition for Arizona as a science and technology hub.
