The Chandler City Council met at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, taking action on seven agenda items. Meeting highlights included:
- Approved the selection Councilmember René Lopez to the position of Vice Mayor, filling the role held the previous year by Councilmember Terry Roe.
- Adopted an ordinance to record the 2019 City Reorganization Code Amendments that reflect the City’s new organizational structure, which was approved as part of the fiscal 2019-2020 budget.
- Recommended a temporary extension of premises for the Ghett Yo Taco Corn Hole Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 25, located at 241 S. Oregon St.
- Recommended a special event liquor license be approved by the State Department of Liquor Licenses and Control for an Avoiding Job Burnout event on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Avion Center, 1733 E. Northrop Blvd.
The meeting adjourned at 6:18 p.m.
During a Study Session on Monday, Jan. 6, the Mayor, Councilmember Matt Orlando and members of the City Council recognized the following two employees of the Chandler Police Department for their combined 40 years of service to the City: Cecilia Ortiz, 20 years; and Sgt. Jeffrey Depodesta, 20 years. The Mayor and Council also recognized Facility Maintenance Manager Kris Kircher on his retirement after 33 years of dedicated service with the Parks Division and Building and Facilities Division.
In addition, the Mayor and Council recognized the City’s Budget staff for their outstanding work preparing the annual budget. For the 32nd consecutive year, staff has earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association for its annual budget for fiscal year 2019-2020. The Budget staff also earned a special recognition for their Capital Section of the budget document.
The next meeting of the City Council will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23. Council meetings are aired live, as well as replayed on the Chandler Channel, Cable Channel 11 (CenturyLink Channel 8002), and streamed online and on the City's YouTube channel.
