It’s In the Bag – Chandler, Gilbert Mayors Face Off for Food Drive
The Scene:     Albertsons
                          861 E. Warner
Southeast corner of Lindsey & Warner in Gilbert
The Players:  Chandler Mayor Jay ‘the ringer’ Tibshraeny
                          Gilbert Mayor John Lewis
The Time:      1 Minute on Wednesday, May 25
                         8:45 – 8:46 a.m.
The Competition: Chandler Mayor Jay Tibshraeny and Gilbert Mayor John Lewis compete in a ‘Bag Off’ to see who can bag the most groceries in 1 minute.   Winner gets to donate the food they bag on behalf of their community, and claim bagging-bragging rights.
The Strategy:  Mayor Jay Tibshraeny says he ‘has it in the bag’ as he plans to call on his highly acclaimed bagboy skills from the old AJ Bayless Days.

Mayor John Lewis reminds Mayor Tibshraeny that this Albertsons is on his Gilbert home turf, one mile from Gilbert High Tiger Stadium. The "Tiger" spirit of the graduating class of '11 (which his daughter is part of) will carry him.

The Reason:
All 90 cases of food have been donated by Albertsons, and will be split between the two communities to support their friendly food drive competition benefitting local food banks.
The competition is open to the public if they would like to come support the food drive and their community.  For details about the food drive and food drop off locations in either community visit:

The Stakes:
The winning community provides T-shirts for the losing community’s City Council to wear at an upcoming Council meeting.
The final weigh in is scheduled for 3:30 Wednesday, June 1 at the Mesa United Food Bank, 245 S. Nina Dr., Mesa.
