Coloring craze coming to the Chandler Public Library; coloring clubs for children and adults start Feb.1

The Chandler Public Library is tapping into the creative craze sweeping the nation and offering a variety of coloring clubs and activities for all ages starting Feb. 1. This surprising phenomenon has many adults rediscovering a soothing and creative pastime of their youth and turning to coloring books as a creative hobby or for stress relief. Interest in coloring has spiked not only among Baby Boomers, but also senior adults, teens and tweens. It offers family friendly fun for all ages and artistic skill levels, and can be enjoyed as a solo activity or in a group.

“We decided to create coloring groups because you see it popping up everywhere these days,” says Chris Koeth, Downtown Library Assistant and coordinator for the Outside the Lines Adult Coloring Group. “It’s a way for people and the community to get together, without excluding people who may not consider themselves artists, but are artists at heart.”

The first program is the Tween Coloring Club for youth, ages 9-11, at the Basha Library beginning at 3:30 p.m., on Monday, Feb.1. The Downtown and Hamilton libraries will also offer coloring clubs for teens and adults/seniors during the months of February and March. All programs are free, and coloring pages and coloring supplies are provided. Pre-registration is required for the Thursday and Teen Coloring Clubs at the Hamilton Library.
