African American Read-In to be held at the Chandler's Hamilton Library

In celebration of Black History Month, the Chandler Hamilton Library will be hosting its first African American Read-In from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016. This community reading event is intended to shine a spotlight on African American authors, promote diversity and encourage young people to read.

Several local authors will read from their own works, including Lola Rainey, Tiffany Muhammad and Lovelle McMichael. Award-winning actor Mike Traylor will present the works of James Baldwin, the African American novelist, essayist, playwright, poet, and social critic. Storyteller Keith Johnson will share tales from the African Diaspora, and artist Mary Pointdexter will teach the craft of doll-making.

This family friendly event is open to all ages, and is free. The Hamilton Branch Library is located at 3700 S. Arizona Ave. This program is presented by the Chandler Public Library and the Chandler Diversity Office, and sponsored by the East Valley N.A.A.C.P.
