The Friends of the Chandler Public Library will be hosting the Winter Book Bonanza at all four Chandler Public Library locations will be marking all donated books at 25% off Friday, Feb. 19 through Saturday, Feb. 20, during regular business hours. On Sunday, Feb. 21, book prices will be slashed for additional savings.

There is a great selection of popular fiction in hardback and paperback books. Inventory varies at each of the four library locations. Visit more than one to see the selection available. Also, books get restocked throughout the day, so don't feel like you have to show up first thing in the morning. If you are a “Friend” of the Chandler Public Library, take advantage of the “Preview Sale” on Thursday, Feb. 18. Friends members get an additional 25% used book purchases all year long.

The Friends began over thirty years ago when a group of Chandler residents recognized that libraries needed additional support and formed a non-profit organization called the Friends of the Chandler Public Library to help provide donations of both time and money in order to best serve the community through the library. They have supported numerous organizations and events to encourage the support and services of the library and its facilities within the community and at all four of its library branches. Through a partnership with the Arizona Community Foundation, the Friends Library Foundation also develops partnerships for private funding and endowments to ensure the excellence of the Chandler Public Library System for years to come.

Proceeds from used book sales help to support programs and services beyond what is available through traditional tax-based funding. The Chandler Public Library programs benefitting from the Friends include Tutor and Talk-Time, Adult and Teen Summer Reading Programs, Adult and Teen Volunteer programs, and Adult and Teen Literacy programs. The Friends also support infant, preschool, and children’s programs such as Lapsit, Babytime, High-Five Reading Together, and Read to Succeed interactive programs, as well as Battle of the Books for school-aged children. “Libraries may survive with public funds; but it’s with private gifts that they flourish” says Brenda Brown, director of the City’s Cultural Affairs division and Library Director.
