Read with the animals during Read Across America Day

Chandler’s Environmental Education Center (EEC) has arranged for children and their parents to read alongside some furry, fluffy and slithering creatures during National Read Across America Day, Wednesday, March 2.

The EEC has joined with Lisa Limbert of Lisa’s Creatures and East Valley Wildlife to create a unique reading experience where youngsters can “get up close and personal” with exotic animals. The free event will be held from 11 a.m. until noon at the EEC, located in Veteran’s Oasis Park, 4050 E. Chandler Heights Rd., in Chandler.
Multiple reading stations will be arranged so parents can read a story to or with their little ones while in the company of a unique animal. Certificates will be awarded to anyone reading a book on their own.

As many as 45 million readers, both young and old, are expected to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday during the National Education Association’s annual celebration of reading. For more information on Read Across America, visit www.nea.org/readacross and www.readacrossamerica.org.

The EEC at Veterans Oasis Park is a green facility that promotes eco-friendly lifestyles through programs, classes and workshops for children and adults. The EEC is open six days a week: Monday thru Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The EEC is closed on Sundays and on City of Chandler holidays. For information, call 480-782-2890, send an e-mail to EEC@chandleraz.gov, or visit www.chandleraz.gov/eec.
