Art Quilts: XXII
Annual exhibition inspires artists to test the limits of their imagination and quilting skills

For more than 20 years, the annual Art Quilts exhibit at the Chandler Center for the Arts Gallery has inspired and captured the hearts of devoted attendees from across Arizona. This year’s show, Art Quilts: XXII, opens Friday, Nov. 17, and will feature 23 multimedia pieces created by 21 artists. The bold colors, textures and patterns used by the artists in this year’s exhibition were inspired by the phrase “as close to the edge as I can go.”

“The quote was given to the artists with the intent to ask each of them to look at their work and be inspired to push their art to the limit,” says Sandra Branjord, quilt artist and exhibition juror. “I was not disappointed.”

Branjord continued, “Some of the artists used introspection to make work that defined themselves as creative beings and others used content to make a very big personal statement. Many used color and form to go outside of their box. They made my job as a juror exciting and edgy.”

Art Quilts: XXII runs through Friday, Jan. 5, 2018. An opening night reception with the artists will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17 at the Center for the Arts Gallery, 250 N. Arizona Ave. The Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. More information on the exhibit can be found at chandlercenter.org.
