Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

In collaboration with Mesa United Way, the VITA program provides free tax preparation to low- and moderate-income taxpayers, the elderly, and those with disabilities.

Chandler’s 2017 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program helped 1,452 low- to moderate-income families, including elderly and disabled individuals claim approximately $1.62 million in tax refunds for the 2017 tax year. The refunds may not have been received without the help of 60 dedicated volunteers who invested more than 4,300 hours assisting these families.

Volunteer Training

The City’s Community Resources Division works with the Internal Revenue Service to train volunteers and establish free tax preparation sites throughout the City to help working families file their tax returns.

The new volunteer training is currently full but if you are interested you can do the self-study.

2020 Tax Preparation Sites

Chandler’s free tax preparation service dates are Jan. 27 - April 14, 2020. Services are provided to those whose income is less than $55,000 -- and are offered on a first come, first serve a basis with priority given to those needing special accommodations.
