Learn more about the Chandler Heights Road Improvement Project, Gilbert Road to Val Vista Drive.

(Project Nos. ST1614.401 / CHN0240D / T009901C)

The City of Chandler has contracted with Granite Construction and Ardurra Group for construction which began in August to widen Chandler Heights Road to a minimum of four lanes (two lanes in each direction), from McQueen to Gilbert Road. Improvements include construction of raised medians, bike lanes, center turn lanes, sidewalks, curb/gutter, landscaping, and utility relocations.

The project also includes drainage improvements such as retention basins and concrete scuppers to accommodate future drainage needs in the project area. In addition, there will be improvements to traffic signals and the traffic signal interconnect, as well as new LED street lighting and conversion of overhead electric to underground.

Construction is currently expected to be complete in Summer 2024.

Construction Information (May 2, 2024):

  • Chandler Heights Road traffic, from Cooper to McQueen Road, is currently shifted to the south side of the road, one lane in each direction, for work to take place on the north side of Chandler Heights. Crews are currently working on the north side of Chandler Heights Road to construct concrete curb and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) ramps, as grading crews work to prepare the subsurface of the roadway for future paving.
  • To accommodate work on the north side of Chandler Heights Road, Bedford Drive, Adams Avenue, and Tower Avenue are currently closed on the north side of Chandler Heights Road. Detour signage is in place to direct travelers around the closures. In addition, the driveway east of Adams Avenue into the school staff parking lot (NOT THE BUS TURNAROUND AREA) is closed during this time. (see graphic below)
  • Electric crews continue work on street lights on the north side of Chandler Heights Road, from Cooper to McQueen, currently installing concrete street light foundations.
  • Scheduled to begin the week of May 6, crews will work on the traffic signal at Adams, with this work taking 1-2 weeks to complete.
  • Chandler Heights Road remains open for travel during this work with traffic shifted away from the work activity permitting at least one lane of travel in each direction.
  • Access to residences and businesses is being maintained.
