Chandler Heights Road Improvement Project: Gilbert Rd. to Val Vista Dr.

(Project Nos. ST1804.401 / CHN0244D / T020301C)

Construction continues to widen Chandler Heights Road from Gilbert Road to Val Vista Drive to four lanes (two lanes in each direction) with raised medians, bike lanes, center turn lane, curb, gutter, sidewalk, street lighting, drainage improvements and utility relocations for the project. Chandler has contracted with Sunland Asphalt to construct the improvements which are expected to take 12 months to complete.

The project includes any necessary utility relocations, drainage improvements such as retention basins and concrete scuppers throughout the project limits, as well as traffic signal improvements at the Chandler Heights Road and Lindsay Road intersection, new street lighting (LED) and traffic signal interconnect. Project exhibits are available below.

Current Construction Information (May 22, 2025):

  • Chandler Heights Road traffic is currently shifted to the middle lanes from Gilbert to Lindsay, and to the north side of Chandler Heights, from Lindsay to Val Vista, one lane in each direction. Crews are currently milling (removing) asphalt along the curb lanes from Lindsay Road to Gilbert Road.
  • Scheduled to take place May 23, traffic will be shifted to the curb lanes, from Gilbert Road to Lindsay Road, for crews to mill (remove) asphalt from along the middle lanes and will then conduct crack sealing on the middle lanes. Scheduled for May 28, traffic will again be shifted to the middle lanes for crack sealing to take place on the curb lanes.
  • Scheduled for May 29-30, paving will take place along Chandler Heights Road, from Gilbert Road to Lindsay Road, first along the curb lanes and then the middle lanes, with traffic shifted, as needed, away from the paving activity. As this work crosses side streets or driveways, there will be a brief period where access may be restricted but crews will work as quickly as possible to restore access. Once paving is complete, temporary striping will be placed.
  • Scheduled for May 27, concrete crews will work to reconstruct sidewalk and ADA (Americans with Disabilities) ramps on the south side of Chandler Heights Road at 150th Street. Grading crews will continue work west of 148th Street to grade and prepare for sidewalk placement.
  • Scheduled to begin the week of June 9, crews will excavate for wall footings on the south side of Chandler Heights Road.
  • Electric crews continue work installing street lights along Chandler Heights Road, from Gilbert to Lindsay, and also continue work at the Chandler Heights Road/Lindsay Road intersection to complete traffic signal work.
  • Work is nearing completion on private irrigation and once the new structures are tied into the irrigation system, scheduled for the week of June 2, the existing irrigation structures, and ditch will be removed.
  • Drywell installation continues at the two retention basins, and scheduled to begin the week of May 27, pipeline crews will install storm drain and manholes on the south side of Chandler Heights, from 148th Street working to the east.
  • Business and resident access will be maintained during this work.
  • Crews will not be working May 24-26 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

Thank you for your patience during this work.
