Updated Nov. 18 to reflect the changing needs of the various nonprofits.

This year has been a challenging one, but the return of the holiday season brings families new joy and a chance for celebration.

Chandler’s nonprofits and organizations have a rich tradition of holiday giving through annual community toy drives, holiday meals, food banks and gift sharing. However, this year, COVID-19’s impacts have naturally increased the need for donations and support among Chandler’s vulnerable families.

On top of increased need, decreased donations are mounting additional pressures on our community’s support systems. According to For Our City — Chandler, donation and supply drives over the past few months have received low or inconsistent donation levels compared to years past, making this time even tougher on nonprofits trying to offer much-needed assistance.

As nonprofits gear up for what is expected to be a particularly necessary season of giving, residents who are able and willing to donate time, items or dollars are encouraged to support the community in whatever way they can.

Here are a few ways to help support families in Chandler this holiday season:

Volunteer with the Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to be bell ringers, gift wrappers and Angel Tree helpers. Sign up for a location near you by using your zip code.

Donate Gift Drive

Help Chandler families this holiday season by donating the following:

  • New toys
  • Gift-cards
  • Electronics
  • Sports items
  • Other appropriate gifts for newborns to 18-year-olds

Start a Gift Card Drive

Sometimes it can be difficult to shop for teenagers. We have found that gift cards are something teenagers truly enjoy receiving. Help provide the "forgotten" siblings with a little holiday magic by conducting a gift card drive. The recommended gift card amount is $25. Email Leslie at AZCEND for more information.
