15th Annual Southwest Tea
Presented by Chandler-Tullamore Sister Cities
Promoting mutual respect and a strong reciprocal relationship between the multi-generational community members of Chandler and Tullamore is of utmost importance to the Chandler-Tullamore Sister City organization. The Annual Southwest Tea event, strives to include and represent the diverse demographics of the community, and to foster the education and understanding of the desert Southwest and the Irish tradition of a Formal Afternoon Tea. No matter the racial, cultural or religious backgrounds of attendees, the organization fosters a safe and respectful event without prejudice nor discrimination.
A meal is prepared and served, there will be live entertainment, information on the current projects, and chance baskets. All proceeds will benefit our projects, most notably our Student Ambassador Program, our Arts and Cultural projects, the Sister Cities International Young Artists and Authors Program, and hosting our Tullamore visitors - which economically benefits the City of Chandler, and more.
Goals of the event include spreading educational knowledge about the culture, traditional foods and fashion of both Chandler and Tullamore. Table hosts provide a wide assortment of Arizona and Irish foods, and attendees are encouraged to wear head pieces (fascinators) that are common at formal Teas in Ireland. The attendees come together to share a mutual love of the culture of the two communities.
