Chandler Named "Playful City USA" for 11th Consecutive Year

The national nonprofit, and parks and recreation advocacy organization, KaBOOM!, has named Chandler a 2017 Playful City USA community. This is the 11th consecutive year the City has received this honor, an accomplishment shared by only 12 other founding cities since KaBOOM! initiated the program in 2007.

The KaBOOM! Playful City USA program honors cities, towns and communities across America that are taking bold steps to ensure that all children, especially those living in poverty, have easy access to balanced and active play in their communities. Chandler was awarded this designation for its commitment to increasing both the quantity and quality of playgrounds as well as providing other recreational opportunities that encourage children to stay active and healthy through play.

Community Services Department staff will celebrate this designation with the community during the Mayor’s Day of Play. This free community event will be held at Tumbleweed Park on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The event will feature a variety of fitness activities, sports, games and wellness information booths for residents to learn more about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
