How do I become a lifeguard with the City of Chandler?

Step #1 Get Certified

The City of Chandler hosts lifeguard certification courses every February and March, where candidates learn essential skills to prevent and respond to water emergencies.

Already certified or courses full? We also accept valid StarGuard Lifeguard certifications from authorized training providers during our application process.

Certification Classes are held in February and March for the upcoming summer season.

Inspire confidence in the water! As a Swim Lesson Instructor, you’ll teach swimmers of all ages and abilities essential swimming skills and water safety.

Requirements:

  • Active StarGuard Lifeguard Certification
  • Active Starfish Aquatic Institute (SAI) Swim Instructor Certification

Who Can Apply?

Anyone 15 years of age or older is invited to apply! Being a lifeguard is the ultimate seasonal job for teens and young adults looking to gain essential leadership skills, give back to the community, and thrive in a fun, dynamic team environment.

Certification Requirements:

  • Lifeguards: Must currently hold or be enrolled in a StarGuard Lifeguard certification course.
  • Swim Lesson Instructors: Must currently hold or be enrolled in both StarGuard Lifeguard and Starfish Aquatic Institute certification courses.

Under 15? Our Junior Lifeguard Program is the perfect stepping stone. You’ll get behind-the-scenes insight into how our aquatic facilities run while building the foundation needed to pass the StarGuard Lifeguard course when you turn 15. Join our Junior Lifeguard Program.
