Chandler, Ariz. – Chandler Vice Mayor Christine Ellis is among the extraordinary women named as Women Achievers of Arizona by the Arizona Capital Times for their impact, innovation, inspiration, leadership and representation.
“I am deeply honored to share this recognition with an incredible group of women in our state, “said Ellis. “As the first Black woman vice mayor and the first Haitian American to serve on Chandler’s City Council, I carry the responsibility to lead with compassion, vision and courage. I remain committed to uplifting Chandler and Arizona through collaboration, advocacy and service.”
Ellis was honored during an Oct. 22 event at the Arizona Biltmore with other women who excel in their professions and are having a significant positive impact on their community, industry or workplace. The event highlighted the achievements of women in corporate leadership, education, environmental impact, government and public service, healthcare, legal, nonprofits, policy and advocacy and technology and innovation.
“This recognition reflects the countless women, mentors and community members who have walked alongside me in service,” said Ellis. “My hope is that this award inspires young women, especially those from underrepresented communities, to know that their voices matter and their leadership is needed.”
Ellis began serving on the Chandler City Council in January 2021. She is now serving her second term on the City Council and was appointed vice mayor in January 2025. She also serves on several regional, state and national boards and committees.
Ellis is the Vice Chair of the Community Initiatives Coordinating Committee at the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) in July 2025. She previously served as Vice Chair of MAG’s Regional Domestic Violence Council and as a member of MAG’s Human Services and Community Initiatives Committee.
Ellis is a registered nurse with more than 30 years of elder care experience and serves as a board member of the Arizona Board of Nursing.
Ellis also serves on several National League of Cities committees, including the Human Development Committee, National Black Caucus, University Communities Council and Women in Municipal Government.
In addition, she serves on the Executive Board of the National Haitian American Elected Officials Network and is serving as their treasurer through 2026.
