We need your input to make Chandler roads safer
Between 2021-2025, there were more than 16,000 crashes on Chandler streets. Of those, 356 resulted in a severe injury and 74 resulted in one or more fatalities. This is why the Chandler Roadway Safety Action Plan is so important. We need your input to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes across the city.

Proposed utility rate changes
The City of Chandler is planning for needed utility rate increases for Water, Wastewater, Reclaimed Water and Solid Waste utilities to cover higher operating and infrastructure project costs.
Operating items such as chemicals and electricity that are essential in the process of providing safe drinking water and treating wastewater continue to have higher costs, in addition to increases in our contract costs for solid waste and recycling collection. Also, costs for capital construction materials and the related debt service on facility and infrastructure improvements to address aging infrastructure have increased.
The proposed rate adjustments will be discussed at an October 15, 2026, Chandler City Council Public Meeting and if adopted, implemented for bills issued on or after January 4, 2027. Visit Proposed Utility Rates for more information and a calculator to see your specific city utility bill impact.
Nov. 3 General Election
The City of Chandler will hold a General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 3, giving Chandler registered voters the opportunity to consider the following items:
- Proposition 430 – Continuation of the Local Alternative Expenditure Limitation, also known as the Home Rule Option. The Home Rule Option simply allows a municipality to make local decisions about how to spend tax revenues to benefit its community.
- Question 1 – Granting a franchise to Arizona Public Service Company (APS). The agreement would allow the utility to construct, maintain and operate its electrical system in the city-owned public rights-of-way.
- Proposition 431 – Proposed charter amendment to clarify timing for the selection of a Vice Mayor at the first regular City Council meeting in January of each year.
- Proposition 432 – Proposed charter amendment to align resign to run provisions with Arizona State Law.
- Proposition 433 – Proposed charter amendment to eliminate the requirement for Council to consider an ordinance twice - once as introduced and then at a second meeting for final adoption.
- Proposition 434 – Proposed charter amendment to address residency requirements for City Council appointees and department directors.
To vote by mail, request your ballot by Oct. 22 by contacting the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office at 602-506-1511. Reminder about short term rentals
Need to obtain a license to operate in Chandler
All short-term rentals in Chandler need a Short-Term Rental License prior to operating. The city license is separate from the tax and license requirements with the Arizona Department of Revenue.
A short-term/vacation rental in Chandler includes renting, advertising, or offering to rent a room, unit, home or property on a web-based platform.

- Trash and recycling is collected anytime from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Though it may seem the truck arrives about the same time every week, there is no specific scheduled time for trash or recycling containers to be emptied.
- Time of collection varies due to truck load capacity, traffic, weather, route changes, road construction and street or utility maintenance.
- To ensure collection service is not interrupted, have your container at the curb by 6 a.m. on your day of collection or after 6 p.m. the evening before your collection day.
- If you placed your container out by 6 a.m., but it was missed, leave it at the curb and call 480-782-3510 no later than the next business day.
- Reports of missed collection are verified by container inspections on a street, and by review of GPS reports that track a collection truck route.
- Containers must be against the curb or in front of a residence and should be placed at least three feet from other containers and at least six feet away from parked cars, light poles, mailboxes or other objects.
- Garbage and grass must be bagged and tied in trash cans. Recyclables should not be placed in bags.
- Lids should be closed on containers with no protruding items.
- Containers must be removed from the curb by 9 a.m. on the day following collection.
- Containers must be secured at the residence between collection days in such a manner that they are not readily susceptible to theft or vandalism.
- Residents are responsible for keeping trash and recycling containers clean.
- Broken, cracked or damaged recycling and trash containers should be reported to Solid Waste Services at 480-782-3510 for repair or replacement.
Chandler faces a unique set of hazards—from extreme heat to flash floods—and preparation is key to protecting yourself, your family and your neighborhood. This September, take time to strengthen your emergency plans and supplies.
Take action this month:
- Make a family communication plan using tools available at Ready.gov.
- Customize your emergency kit for pets, dietary needs, or medications.
- Store copies of key documents and some cash in a waterproof container.
- Prepare to shelter at work for up to 24 hours—include walking shoes, food, and essentials in a grab-and-go kit.
- Keep an emergency kit in your car for roadside emergencies.
- Stay in touch by text, not calls—texts are more reliable during emergencies.
- Check in on elderly neighbors and loved ones—especially during heatwaves.
