Chandler, Ariz. – Chandler Vice Mayor Christine Ellis has been appointed the Vice Chair of the Community Initiatives Coordinating Committee at the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG). She was appointed to a three-year term on the committee and will serve as Vice Chair through Dec. 31, 2026.

“This is an exciting initiative that engages experts in the work of improving people’s lives and strengthening communities throughout the region,” said Vice Mayor Ellis. “I’ve worked in social services with community stakeholders for more than 30 years. In my experience, collaboration leads to effective and innovative solutions, and I look forward to partnerships that we’ll form during this inaugural year of the committee.”

The committee consists of up to 21 members who provide direction and oversight of regional human services planning to improve people’s lives and strengthen communities. It will conduct a call for projects and then action teams will be deployed with specific scopes of work, timelines and deliverables to implement the selected projects.

Vice Mayor Ellis began serving on the Chandler City Council in January 2021. She previously served as Vice Chair of MAG’s Regional Domestic Violence Council and served as a member of MAG’s Human Services and Community Initiatives Committee. Those committees were dissolved with the establishment of the Community Initiatives Coordinating Committee.

Vice Mayor Ellis also serves on several National League of Cities committees, including the Human Development Committee, National Black Caucus, University Communities Council and Women in Municipal Government. In addition, she serves on the Executive Board of the National Haitian American Elected Officials Network and is serving as their treasurer through 2026.
