Landscaping and Irrigation Workshops

Each spring and fall, the Water Conservation Office offers workshops designed to help residents learn how to use water more efficiently and still have an attractive yard.

The City of Chandler offers a variety of training workshops to aid customers in cultivating landscapes that are water-wise, beautiful and low-maintenance. Each workshop is taught by an expert in their field.

Each class is approximately two hours and includes time for Q & A’s. All workshops are free of charge, but advanced registration is required. Once registered, you will receive reminders and links to helpful handouts for each class.

Spring 2022 Landscaping and Irrigation Workshops

Location: ASU Chandler Innovation Center, 249 E. Chicago St.

Adjusting your watering schedules more often saves water and is better for the landscape. The most accurate way is to adjust the watering each time based on the weather since the last time it watered. Learn how smart controllers do all this on their own and how to select the right controller for our region and your yard. Classes are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced gardener just looking for tips to make your garden more productive in our desert climate, this class is for you. You’ll learn how to plan, start and maintain a vegetable garden, as well as what will grow here and when to plant. Classes are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment. Participant will be notified of any changes 24-48 hours prior via email.

Come learn all about the process and benefits of turning yard waste and organic food scraps into vital nutrients for your soil. Compost reduces the need to water as often, as well as the need for commercial soil amendments and chemical fertilizers. Classes are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment. Participant will be notified of any changes 24-48 hours prior via email.

You'll learn how to address dry areas in your lawn, irrigation parts and valves as well as, how to adjust stations on your irrigation controller. Get familiar with a wide variety of intriguing sculptural forms that can embellish your desert landscape.  These plants are drought tolerant and low maintenance, yet provide a range of color, texture, and size – who could ask for more?  Learn how to use them for maximum effect in your garden. Classes are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment. Participant will be notified of any changes 24-48 hours prior via email.

Does your landscape need a makeover? Perhaps just a tune-up? This class will show you how to develop a plan for your yard and incorporate design elements. You’ll also learn about using colors, textures, and focal points to your advantage. Lawn removal/conversion will also be discussed along with rebates offered. Classes are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment. Learn how to create a garden habitat for various pollinators, such as hummingbirds, butterflies, moths, and bees. Many native and low water use plants appropriate for our desert environment provide brilliant color and fragrance for our enjoyment, as well as providing for pollinator needs. Classes are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment. Whether you plan on doing it yourself or hiring a professional, this class can help you learn what to look for and the questions to ask before you start. You'll gain hands-on practice with cutting pipes, inserting emitters, and connecting parts and pieces. Classes are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment.
