Chandler City Council approves updates to Strategic Framework

Mayor Kevin Hartke

One of my first major accomplishments as Mayor was launching the first-ever Strategic Framework with Council in 2019. For the past two years, City staff has taken direction from this framework to create, reimagine and execute several projects and initiatives throughout the community that adds to Chandler’s exceptional quality of life.

Through the challenges and events that occurred in 2020, and with the addition of two new Councilmembers, Council identified a need to update this framework to better reflect the emerging needs and priorities of our residents and businesses. The original five areas of focus included infill and redevelopment, innovation and technology, mobility, neighborhoods and quality of life. Some of the major changes to the updated framework include:

  • A more prominent commitment to diversity, equity and inclusivity through an update to Chandler’s Brand Statement;
  • Broadened the focus area on infill and redevelopment and renamed it, “economic vitality,” to ensure as our community continues to grow, so do our tools and practices;
  • A more distinct focus on higher education, workforce development and entrepreneurship programs to feed a talent pipeline for employers and create opportunities for residents.

It was important to Council that we celebrate Chandler’s history and diversity by making it a major part of the foundation that guides us as we plan for the future. An enriching quality of life, diverse job opportunities and safe neighborhoods are at the forefront of our priorities. Through public and private partnerships, participation at the state and national levels and constant civic engagement, we will continue to invest in the necessary improvements and changes to remain a community of innovation.
