This week Vice Mayor Mark Stewart, Councilmember Matt Orlando and Councilmember OD Harris participated in the National League of Cities Congressional City Conference. This virtual conference provided an opportunity for local leaders from around the country to gather and discuss emerging trends affecting local governments and to meet with congressional representatives to advocate for local priorities.
The four-day conference included updates on the American Rescue Plan, the 2020 Census and federal agency decisions and court cases that could affect cities and towns. Participants also had the opportunity to hear directly from Vice President Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigeg, U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Mark Zandy, Chief Economist at Moody’s Analytics and Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The conference wrapped up with “Hill Day” – an opportunity to virtually meet with Chandler’s federal delegation to discuss topics that are important to our community.
Vice Mayor Mark Stewart currently serves as a member of NLC’s Community and Economic Development Committee. Councilmember Matt Orlando currently serves as Vice Chair of NLC’s Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations Committee. Visit the National League of Cities to learn more.
