Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries work together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their library card. By having access to library materials and services, children develop their literacy skills which increase their chance of educational success.

Libraries have transformed into vibrant, active communities and cultural centers. People may go to the library looking mainly for books, but they can also find other things. New parents connect at baby story-times; elderly people, often facing difficult life transitions, attend events and find that they make new friends; teenagers meet up in libraries’ teen spaces after school, and readers discuss current events in book discussion groups. In libraries, community-building connections are happening all the time. Newcomers to our country learn English as a second language, and more.

Public libraries are trustworthy, community institutions, and most important, public libraries are open to everyone. It doesn’t matter your age, it doesn’t matter your race, ethnicity, social class, and net worth. Libraries are places for community engagement, a platform for great minds to come together. Chandler Public Library, along with libraries everywhere, continues to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of our community. Make plans to stop by one of our four locations in the coming months to learn more about upcoming happenings we have in store!

Chandler Sunset Library

A Seed Library was launched earlier this year at the Sunset Library location in which heirloom, non-GMO seeds can be checked out so they may grow their harvests and then donate seeds back to the Library for others to use. This resource will once again be available when the Sunset Library reopens to the public.
