The Chandler Fire Department is a progressive, internationally accredited organization with a distinguished history of service to the community. I co-sponsored a budget amendment with Councilmembers Orlando, Roe and Ellis for the Chandler Fire Department to add natural gas meters to their fire trucks.

Each Chandler Fire Department Ladder truck will be equipped with one Rae Systems QRAE 3 Multi-Gas Monitor and one Bascom Turner Instruments Gas Explorer.

The purpose of these two meters is to detect combustibles such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, oxygen, and natural gas. As technology and materials evolve, so have these vital pieces of safety equipment. For example, the QRAE 3 can be used wirelessly.

These monitoring devices are important because they provide safety not only to the citizens of Chandler, but also to the firefighters. Firefighters responding to emergencies rely on these meters for accurate detection, and this allows them to make the right decision during stressful situations. Both meters provide accurate air and gas reading whether responding to a fire, smoke, or gas-related emergency.

Public safety is essential to our community’s quality of life and I thank our first responders for all they do to protect, serve and respond to the needs of our residents.
