Communications Cell Tower at Veterans Oasis Park

Veterans Oasis Park Area Map

Community Outreach Summary

The City of Chandler recently conducted an expanded public outreach effort to gather community input on a potential request from a third-party utility provider to install a communications cell tower at Veterans Oasis Park. As of April 22, 2026, no formal application has been submitted. Because Veterans Oasis Park is a valued environmental and community resource, the city chose to proactively seek resident feedback before any formal review process might begin.

What We Did
To ensure broad awareness and participation, the city exceeded all standard notification requirements. Outreach included:

  • Mailings to residents within a 1,000 foot radius (774 addresses) and follow-up notifications to 16 nearby HOAs
  • Posts on NextDoor reaching approximately 2,000 residents in five neighborhoods
  • Emails to park users and project stakeholders
  • A dedicated webpage with information and FAQs
  • Park signage at Veterans Oasis Park
  • A public open house on February 11, 2026
  • A public online survey, available January 22 – February 18, 2026

More than 200 residents completed the survey, and 28 attended the open house.

What We Heard
Feedback reflected strong community interest in the topic, with a wide range of perspectives:

  • Many residents expressed concern about potential impacts to wildlife, park character, environmental education areas, and overall park experience.
  • Some residents voiced concerns about health, aesthetics, or property values.
  • Others highlighted the need for improved cell service in the surrounding neighborhoods and expressed support for exploring a tower at the park if designed appropriately or placed in less visible locations.
  • Many requested more information about design, location, and alternative sites before forming a final opinion.

What Happens Next
This community input will help guide city staff and elected officials should a formal application to install a communication cell tower at Veterans Oasis Park be submitted in the future. Any such application would follow the full public review process, including site evaluation, neighborhood meetings, Planning Commission hearings, and eventual City Council consideration.

The city will continue to keep the community informed as new information becomes available.
