Communications Cell Tower at Veterans Oasis Park

Veterans Oasis Park Area Map

The City of Chandler has received a request to permit and construct a communications cell tower on property at Veterans Oasis Park, located at 4050 E Chandler Heights Road, at the northeast corner of Lindsay Road and Chandler Heights Road.

As part of the permitting process, the third-party utility would typically be required to contact property owners within 600 feet of the planned structure to inform them of the installation. However, as Veterans Oasis Park is a public amenity to serve Chandler residents, Chandler Parks Department is doing its due diligence and going beyond this requirement to ensure nearby residents and park users have an opportunity to provide their thoughts related to the cell tower.

As the City of Chandler works continually to provide appropriate infrastructure to serve residents and businesses in terms of transportation and utilities, it’s not uncommon that they are also periodically called upon by third-party utilities to install and/or permit their facilities in City of Chandler right-of-way or properties, which is why this request is being considered.

It should be noted that the City of Chandler does not design these facilities or contract for their construction, so the specific location, look and footprint of this communications cell tower is not yet defined. If approved, it is expected the tower will be approximately 65-feet tall and identifying the location will likely need to consider constructability, future access for maintenance, and impacts to the existing and future park, public safety and water resource activities that take place at Veterans Oasis Park. In addition, Chandler Parks Department would ideally want the look or functionality of the communications cell tower to be park-appropriate.

The communications utility has indicated this cell tower is a necessity, and will provide and enhance service to the South Chandler area, to include emergency communications and response for public safety. For those reasons, we are reaching out to gather feedback to better inform the City of Chandler’s decision.

Public Meeting

Open-house Neighborhood Meeting

Wednesday, Feb. 11 | 6-7 p.m.
Chandler Nature Center, Multi-purpose Room
4050 E. Chandler Heights Road

Feel free to come and go at your leisure as no formal presentation will be provided.

Before making a decision on this request, we’d like to hear from Chandler residents to better inform the City of Chandler’s decision. Please let us know your thoughts and, more importantly, help us understand how you arrived at those feelings, and if there are factors that would make you feel different. We want to make sure that, if approved, while the cell tower may provide a benefit to residents in terms of cell service in the area, it does not lessen the park’s value as an important feature for South Chandler.
