Birthday Party Packages FAQs

• 45 minutes of activity time, with birthday staff to oversee the activities and material for planned activities.
• 45 minutes of semi-private celebration time the same Classroom (or Kitchen for Bake with Me).
• Up to 10 children are included in the package fee *
• Plasticware and paper products will be supplied for the children only.
• Table covers and streamers** in the colors you will select on your inquiry form.

*Maximum of 20 children in total can attend birthday packages. Additional children* are $10 each, payable day of the party.
**Bake with Me Parties will include streamers only. Butcher block paper will be provided on the countertops.

Birthday party packages are appropriate for children turning 3 years through 10 years old.

Younger/older guests can participate if parents permit them to and sign a waiver. 

Submit an inquiry online for your preferred party package using the link below. It will ask you for three choices of date and time. The birthday party coordinator will reach out within 3-5 business days (Monday - Friday) of receipt of the application to advise availability and offer you a timeslot, or to suggest alternative timeslots.

Note: Birthday party package reservations must be completed at least two weeks prior to event date, pending availability.

Birthday parties can be booked no more than 3 months in advance, but no less than 2 weeks in advance.

Birthday party packages are offered on a first-come, first-served basis on Saturdays and Sundays only, and are subject to availability. All timeslots are a total of 1.5 hours, consisting of 45 minutes of activity time and 45 minutes of celebration time.

• Saturday Timeslots: 10am, 12pm*, 2pm*, 4pm
• Sunday Timeslots: 11am, 1pm, 3pm*

* Sports parties are only available during noted timeslots due to gym availability

Celebration time and activities (except for sports party activities that occur in the gym) all take place in the same room, including Bake with Me parties that take place from beginning to end in the kitchen.

Only 15 minutes of time is permitted immediately before the party to set-up.

There is no additional time for clean-up. Please be cooperative and prompt when vacating the party area at the end of the party package time.

While we do not supply food or drinks, except materials for Bake with Me packages, you are welcome to bring along refreshments for your guests to enjoy.

Alcohol is not permitted at birthday party programs.

You may have food delivered to Tumbleweed Recreation Center; however, staff cannot accept delivery of the food. Please plan to pick it up at the Guest Service Desk from the delivery person.

Vendors are not permitted at birthday party packages.

If you would like to plan a more elaborate party, please consider a private rental of our classrooms, or multipurpose rooms.

Renters must supply their chosen vendors certificate(s) of insurance, and the vendor(s) must meet certain insurance requirements, to perform services on-site on city property at private rentals.

Only Bake with Me parties that take place in the Kitchen will have access to a sink in the room.

All parties will have access to a fridge/freezer for the duration of their package.

Ice is not available for birthday party packages.

Due to city regulations, we kindly ask that you refrain from lighting candles indoors. LED candles or birthday wish bubbles are great alternatives.

Birthday party packages are a total of 1.5 hours. It is not possible to add more time, however if availability allows, you may book more than one timeslot, at regular party package price, back-to-back for a total of 3 hours. Note the breakdown would remain 50:50 for activity and celebration time.

Alternatively, it may be possible to privately book the classroom (unstaffed) during Tumbleweed Recreation Centers hours of operation, if additional time is needed. Please speak with the birthday party coordinator for more information.

The package includes up to 10 children, including the birthday child and siblings. We can accommodate up to a maximum of 20 children. Each additional child, over the first 10 children, will incur an additional charge of $10, payable on the day of the party. Adult supervision is required.

If you are expecting a large group of children, be aware that the total capacity for the rooms used for the party packages is 24 people, including children and adults.

Exceeding the 24-person capacity will result in only the birthday child’s parents, and the children attending, being permitted to remain in the room, essentially making it a “drop-off” party under the supervision of the party parent. Capacities must be adhered to.

Parents of the children attending the party may remain in the facility, in the public courtyard, or breezeway, if they would like to remain close by.

No. All birthday party packages are held in classrooms with a max capacity of 24 people. Capacities must be adhered to.

If a larger room is needed to accommodate a larger group exceeding the 24-person capacity, private rental of a multipurpose room would be a better option, subject to availability.

Please see our rentals for more information on planning a private rental for your event. Note: multipurpose rooms can be rented up to 365 days in advance, but no less than 60 days prior to the event date.

Seating will be available for 24 people and 8 tables total. No additional seating will be added. See question on how many guests can attend.

Surface space will be available for laying out any refreshments and for gifts.

List only the recreation center’s information. Classroom allocation for birthday parties remains subject to change. For this reason, we do not recommend listing a classroom name on the invitation.

An A-frame will be placed by the Guest Service Desk to direct your guests to the party classroom.

Yes, all guests must have a signed waiver.

Party parents are asked to distribute the waiver with invitations to guests before the party, to aid in the timely commencement of activities. However, if guests do not bring the waiver to the party, the birthday staff will have hard copies available for parents to complete upon arrival.

Currently, a webform waiver is not available to submit online.

We have a strong preference for the children to perform their own experiments if they are comfortable to do so, and if time permits. However, the staff may use their discretion to modify to demonstration of the experiments if they deem it necessary for progression of the party.

NOTE: The number of experiments performed on the day will be time permitting, within the 45-minute window. We aim to perform 2-3.

NOTE: The craft and an activity will be completed within the 45-minute window. Additional crafts/activities may be completed with time permitting.

Personal pizza bases are provided for each child for the activity, and a cupcake each to decorate, that the children will make together with the staff.

The children will be provided with frosting and sprinkles.

Parents are welcome to bring along additional embellishments to decorate the cupcakes. If so, please provide the embellishments at the beginning of the party to a birthday staff member.

Yes, you can bring ready-to-add toppings to add to the pizza if you would like. Staff cannot wash, chop, decant or otherwise prepare additional toppings. If you bring additional toppings, please provide the toppings at the beginning of the party to a birthday staff member.

The kitchen cannot be guaranteed to be allergen free. Please speak with the Birthday Party Coordinator about any specific dietary restrictions and reasonable ADA accommodation no less than 2 weeks in advance.
