Annual Creative Expression Competition

The Creative Expression Competition gives our Chandler students an opportunity to express themselves and share their talent with the City. It is open to all students living or attending school in Chandler. One entry per student will be accepted in both the writing and visual arts categories.

2021 Theme
  • Culture and Equity Across Time - How your experience of culture or understanding of equity has changed with time.
Competition Information
  • Winning entries will be displayed in Downtown Chandler during the month of January 2021and online below.
  • First place winners and schools will be recognized at a February 2021 City Council Meeting. All other winners will have their awards sent directly to their schools.
Deadline for Entries: Friday, Oct. 30, 2020
  • This competition is open to all students living in or attending school in Chandler. One entry per student will be accepted.
Judging Criteria
  • Writing - Readability, Reflection of Theme, Use of Writer's Understanding of Cultural Experiences

  • Visual - Composition, Presentation, Technique and Subject

  • Video - Content, Creativity, and Visual Appeal
Competition Guidelines
  • No Names on Front of writing or visual entries. No captions or title sequence with names for video entries.

  • Writing - Essay and poetry entries limited to one page. Please submit online below.
    • Eligible grade levels: K-4, 5-8, 9-12

  • Visual - Posters, photography, and painting. Vertical orientation is preferred. Please limit the size to 14 x 22. Please submit online below or drop-off at Neighborhood Resources Office 235 S. Arizona Ave.
    • Eligible grade levels: K-4, 5-8, 9-12

  • Video - Short YouTube videos, TikToks, animated shorts or other digital media. Please limit the length of the video to 2 minutes. YouTube URLs or uploaded MP4 files will be accepted. Maximum file size is 25 MB. Please submit online below.
    • Eligible grade levels: K-4, 5-8, 9-12

All material presented must be deemed appropriate by judges. All entries that do not meet competition guidelines may be subject to disqualification.
