CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Chandler City Council approved an employment contract at its Jan. 8 meeting and has appointed Jennifer Ekblad as the City Clerk effective Jan. 11.
"This is a critical appointment, and Jennifer brings a wealth of City Clerk Office knowledge and experience to the role that will be a tremendous asset to the City Council and Chandler residents," said Mayor Kevin Hartke.
Ekblad has more than 10 years’ experience working in a City Clerk’s Office and joined Chandler in March 2023 as the Deputy City Clerk. Previously, she served as City Clerk for the City of Coronado and as Assistant City Clerk for the City of Escondido.
She has attained the prestigious Master Municipal Clerk designation, is a Certified Records Manager and earned the Certified Public Manager designation from Arizona State University. She holds a bachelor's degree from Point Loma Nazarene University and a master’s degree in public administration from San Diego State University.
Ekblad is replacing Dana DeLong who will retire on Feb. 20 after serving as Chandler’s City Clerk since 2017.
The City Clerk is the source of information regarding the City Charter, City Code and City Council meetings and actions. The City Clerk conducts municipal elections, coordinates statutory legal publication and public meeting notification and serves as the records custodian for the city. The City Clerk’s Office also provides the public with notary services, passport processing and election assistance.
