CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Chandler City Council has adopted the Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget and 2027-2036 Capital Improvement Program, continuing a long-standing focus on keeping costs low for residents while investing in critical city services and planning for the community’s future.
For residents, one of the most visible impacts is another reduction in Chandler’s primary property tax rate for the 11th year in a row. The $1.87 billion budget is structurally balanced to fund day-to-day services and long-term capital projects. It maintains strong reserves and keeps Chandler’s general sales tax rate at 1.5 percent, the lowest in Arizona.
Highlights of the budget include:
- Reduces Chandler’s primary property tax rate for the 11th consecutive year with a total rate of $1.0759 per $100 of assessed value.
- Chandler offers the lowest general sales tax rate in Arizona at 1.5 percent and the lowest overall cost of government services among large Valley cities based on utility rates and estimated taxes paid.
- The budget is structurally balanced with ongoing revenues supporting ongoing expenses and the operating and capital budgets have been adjusted to account for continued inflation.
- Chandler continues to be the only Arizona city with the highest possible bond rating (AAA) from all three rating agencies for general obligation bonds and excise tax revenue obligations, which lowers the cost of borrowing on projects for parks, public safety facilities and water treatment upgrades.
- Transitions Chandler Fire’s ambulance service to a self-supporting enterprise to be funded by users of the services, improving emergency response and saving costs to taxpayers’ in the long term.
Key projects funded in next year’s capital improvement program include:
- Building of Mesquite Groves Park in southeast Chandler, updating Dr. A. J. Chandler Park in Downtown Chandler and funding athletic field improvements and upgrades for existing parks.
- Enhancing street repaving to improve pavement quality, reconstructing the intersection of Ray and Dobson roads and improving Kyrene Road south of Chandler Blvd.
- Constructing the Chandler Police Forensics Services Facility and acquiring fire emergency response vehicles.
- Updating Chandler’s water production and wastewater treatment facilities and infrastructure.
