Chandler City Council to hold June 12 public hearing to adopt Budget and Capital Improvement Program

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Chandler City Council will hold a public hearing on June 12 at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 88 E. Chicago St., regarding the final adoption of the fiscal year 2025-2026 Budget and 2026-2035 Capital Improvement Program.

The proposed budget includes $783.2 million for operations and $845.7 million for capital improvements. Highlights of the proposed budget include:

  • Reduces Chandler’s property tax rate for the 10th consecutive year with a total rate of $1.0818 per $100 of assessed value.
  • Chandler offers the lowest general sales tax rate in Arizona at 1.5% and the lowest overall cost of government services among large Valley cities based on utility rates and taxes paid.
  • The budget is structurally balanced with ongoing revenues supporting ongoing expenses and the operating and capital budgets have been adjusted to account for continued inflation.
  • Chandler continues to be one of only three Arizona Cities with the highest possible bond rating (AAA) from all three rating agencies for general obligation bonds and excise tax revenue obligations.
  • Continues funding to hire and train first responders in preparation for upcoming retirements and plans a one-time payment of up to $25 million to the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System to maintain its fully funded status.

Key projects funded in next year’s capital improvement program include:

  • Building the first phase of Mesquite Groves Park in southeast Chandler, updating Dr. A. J. Chandler Park in Downtown Chandler and funding athletic field improvements and additional rehabilitations in existing parks.
  • Enhancing street repaving to improve pavement quality, reconstructing the intersection of Ray and Dobson roads and widening sections of Lindsay and Alma School roads in south Chandler.
  • Designing a Chandler Police Forensics Facility and acquiring emergency responses vehicles for fire and police.
  • Updating Chandler’s water and wastewater facilities and infrastructure.

During its May 22 meeting, the Chandler City Council voted to tentatively adopt of the 2025-26 Budget and 2026-2035 Capital Improvement Program, establishing June 12 as the public hearing date for the final adoption of the budget.
