Public meetings announced for proposed utility rate changes

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The City of Chandler is planning for needed Utility Rate increases for Water (15%), Wastewater (15%), Reclaimed Water (18%), and Solid Waste (6%) utilities to cover higher operating costs and increases to infrastructure projects.

Operating items such as chemicals and electricity that are essential in the process of providing safe drinking water and treating wastewater continue to see higher costs. In addition, there have been increases in contracted costs for solid waste and recycling collections and waste hauling.

Inflation continues to increase the costs for capital construction materials on water and wastewater facility improvement projects. The planned number of projects has also increased to better address aging infrastructure such as main replacements, well construction and rehabilitation, and sewer assessments and rehabilitation.

These rate adjustments will be implemented across all customer classifications, including single-family, multi-family, non-residential, landscape, and industrial customer classes for water; and single-family, multi-family, and non-residential customer classes for wastewater.

Below is a schedule of public meetings related to these proposed rate changes:

  • Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m. – Utility Rate Community Meeting in Council Chambers
  • Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. – Utility Rate Community Meeting in Council Chambers
  • Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. – Council Utility Rate Discussion and Outreach Update
  • Jan. 8, 2026 at 6 p.m. – First read of the Ordinance at Council Meeting
  • Jan. 22, 2026 at 6 p.m. – Final Adoption at Council Meeting

The proposed rate changes would take effect on March 2, 2026.
