Stay informed as the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) makes improvements to the Loop 202 Santan Freeway. The project is scheduled for completion in 2027.

Major elements of the project include:

  • Add two lanes in each direction between Price Rd. and Gilbert Rd.
  • Add one lane in each direction between Gilbert Rd. and Val Vista Dr.
  • Widen Loop 202 freeway entrance and exit ramps
  • Widen bridges over Arizona Ave., Union Pacific Railroad and Consolidated Canal

Starting in 2025, each of the freeway entrance and exit ramps will close for up to 60 consecutive days to widen the ramps. ADOT will stagger this work to avoid closing consecutive freeway entrance or exit ramps in the same direction. 

Ramps connecting the Loop 101 and Loop 202 freeways also will close for up to 15 consecutive days as improvements are made. 

Traffic Restrictions

Westbound Loop 202

  • On a nightly basis from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., westbound Loop 202 will be narrowed to two lanes between Arizona Ave and Alma School Rd starting Monday night, Jan. 12, and ending Friday morning, Jan. 16. This same lane restriction will occur from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, until 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17.
  • On a nightly basis from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., westbound Loop 202 will be narrowed to two lanes between Arizona Ave and Alma School Rd starting Tuesday night, Jan. 20 and ending Friday morning, Jan. 23. 

At Dobson Road:

  • The westbound Loop 202 exit ramp at Dobson Rd is closed for reconstruction until mid-March 2026. 

At Alma School Road:

  • Westbound Loop 202 entrance ramp at Alma School Rd is closed for reconstruction until late January 2026.

At McQueen Road:

  • Westbound Loop 202 exit ramp at McQueen Rd will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, until 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25.

At Cooper Road:

  • Eastbound Loop 202 entrance ramp at Cooper Rd will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. starting Tuesday night, Jan. 13, and ending Thursday morning, Jan. 15.
  • Westbound Loop 202 entrance ramp at Cooper Rd will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, until 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 25.
